What I am doing this moment: Eating fresh coconut from the market and starting a blog.
Why on earth would you want to read about me? Because I always get myself into crazy situations.
So Far I have been in Barcelona for two weeks at the Col-legi Major Sant Jordi, which is a private dorm for international students. There are about 11 students from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign including myself, and many, many students from different branches of the University of California. We are required to take a summer intensive language program to get us conditioned for the fall semester (which starts September 21). So for five days a week and five hours a day, I have FIVE classes! My classes are grammar, culture, Catalan, composition, and conversation. Honestly, they are helpful classes, but getting homework everyday and meanwhile looking for an apartment, allows no time to do what I love most here which is to GO TO THE BEACH!
I have two weeks remaining of the ILP (intensive language program) and I move out of the col-legi September 12. So far I have seen four apartments in four different "barrios" or neighborhoods. The first one was located about a ten minute walk from the Blue line metro in a nice family oriented area. The rent was a little over 400£ and it was a beautiful place, but I would have to live with a host mom and her twenty-four year old daughter, which presents a problem because then when my boyfriend comes to visit, he couldn't stay with me! So, apartment number one is out of the question. Apartment number two was in shady area, and it did not have heating! I prefer cold to heat, but I don't want to be sick all winter because my building is to ghetto to have heat... so number two is out of the question. Plus, I didn't feel very safe there and I would have had to live with a married couple. Apartment number three was great, but when I got there the woman told me and my current roommate Eunice, that she was actually going to move out- so apartment three is out of the question.
Today I went by myself to apartment number four. I did want to have Spanish roommates so I could toss the English aside, but just listen to what a package this apartment is...
1) Less than a five minute walk to the metro.
2) Less than a five minute walk to the beach.
3) I can save a lot of money because I can walk to class (just imagine the view of walking down Lake Shore Drive with the Mediterannean Sea). Dreamy!
4) My roommates would be two hot, Swiss gentlemen who speak English, and want ME to help them with Spanish...
5) The room is much bigger than any of the other ones I have seen...
6) AC, Internet, Heat, and a washing machine are all present.
7) With gas/utilities etc.. it should never go over 400£ a month.
8) The place has a nice balcony, and you can smell the sea.
9) It is in Barceloneta nearest to the Barri Gótic which has all of Barcelona's old architecture, and the popular shopping area of Las Ramblas.
10) The apartment is safe, spacious, and newly renovated.
I really hope they pick me, they said that they would let me know by tomorrow, and if they don't pick me, then I guess the search will continue.
Other than apartments and homework and of course working on my tan every chance I get, I miss my boyfriend a lot. His name is Gastón and we will have been together for four years this January 1st.
The time is 5:38pm and I have to get started on my homework now.
Later,
Cat

I like the name of your blog. It would be cool if you meant the currency and could actually change into a pocket sized bill.
Swedes eh?
I hope you do get the apartment with the guys. Knowing you, I think you'll want room for Gston, AC in the summer is nice, but what happens when winter will come, and you'll need someone to live with. That puts the first three apartments out like you said.
I hope those guys let you live with them.
URRG no such luck, but thats ok there are plenty of cool apartments in that area.. the search continues :)
